First of all, we must understand how we interact with alternative realities and this is where “Magic” comes up along with a variety of ancient traditions that have a lot to teach us. The classic contactee is usually not aware of this, on the other hand some people started off with contactism but then related the events to the Magical realm (and we shall clarify the term Magic later on). They connected the events with a series of other factors instead of isolating it. Isolating the experience will never lead to any interesting results or information.The only concern is that a vampirical, dark and gloomy image of the phenomenon is being fed through. This trend is created by the so called topic authorities like Bob Lazar. People that go around with a briefcase full of evidence, alien implants extracted from abductees (abductees have often stated to have been implanted devices to keep them under control). There are also X-rays and physical evidence. But these characters that make a living out of the conferences they give on this topic have turned Ufological research into a Business. Of course, each one is free to do as he or she likes but the real concern is that turning Ufology into something that is preached could lead to fideism or even worse: let’s not forget that this phenomenon interacts with the collective psyche and if the collective psyche gives a certain shape and form, the phenomenon will take this attributed shape. It is a bit like what some of the after death theories say: the departed will find themselves in the paradises or hells they have created for themselves.We should start modifying ourselves the paradigm in order to see how it interacts with a suddenly different mode of interpretation or point of view. As is stated in Quantum Physics, some phenomena give different results according to the condition and changing factors of the observer.UFOs exist as long as they find a psychic content that gives them a solid form, shape and nature. From my point of view, it would be too simplistic to just state that they are in our minds. They are a result of our conscience just like everything else but then we enter in the realm of mysticism and spiritual physics. For now let’s just say that they are a shape and form given to a form of energy that doesn’t originate from us but that is part of certain aspects of reality that we still know nothing about (whether it is interior or exterior doesn’t matter at this point because we would enter into a different type of discussion where a different type of logic needs to be applied)In any case, we are talking about an exogenous alien phenomenon that opens up like a window towards another reality and that should lead us to enquire how much of that “alienness” is really within us or at least to question how much of what we perceive as real comes from what we have told to be our world and reality.The most appropriate behaviour should be scientific-Gnostic approach: there is one discipline that has always attempted to teach the balance between reason and perception and that is “Magic”, starting always with the harmonisation of science and conscience. In my opinion, this is the behaviour that should be applied on the UFO phenomenon, which inserts it in a larger topic as merely a component of the whole.We can say that the first form of esotericism that investigated reality as holistic and multidimensional, thus unifying Esotericism, Magic, Esoteric Physics and Ufology was the Thelemic current, founded by Crowley. He has the merit of understanding the connection and being the precursor of the great archetypal changes of the Age of Aquarius. Later on Grant, Bertieaux and various other research movements of Thelemic-Maatian influence investigated the theories of Chaos, Stellar Magick, etc.It is important to point out that even notable researchers like Castaneda have fallen into the dualistic trap. Towards the end of his career, Carlos Castaneda started talking about malignant entities that surrounded mankind and feed upon us like simple food, etc. Wherever there is a line of thought along these lines, it actually creates a dualistic scheme of reality which will take on the same expression: these forces exist, I am not saying they don’t ” they are mentioned even in my studies and writings ” but they are entities created by us humans as a result of thousands of years of ways, behaviours and attitudes. They are not the historical cause of humanity’s sleep and spiritual involution. The awakening must therefore begin from within us.It is us who are allowing this predation and we have locked ourselves into a variety of political, social, religious and cultural schemes that make sure this continues in this manner. There is now of course en energetic mechanism that ensures the continuity of this entrapment but it was created by mankind in the first place. And if we continue to think in this manner, things will be as we want them to! The entrapment will continue.This is a rather historical moment where all that was once an established fact is thrown back onto the discussion board. The planes are shifting and mixing in order to reformulate what we are defining as reality: perhaps we are at the edge of a great mutation, a big change (someone might have called it apocalypse) and great affluence of energy. In some of my studies and writings I have gone into more detail on the topic of parallel worlds and the detachment of planes of existence. Surely at a global level, we are in the midst of a mixture of paradigms that need to reformulate in a new manner, according to potential futures and schematics that could go in very different directions from one another.The whole concept is to develop the capacity to access the phenomenon within the timeframe and modalities established through a form of harmonic and balanced concurrence of forces. This must be achieved without any abuse of power or losses of lucidity even during the time when one remains open and fully available towards something greater. This is accomplished through the ever more precise use of will power and the ever widening use of our own senses, as well as mental and spiritual faculties.At that precise moment, we can have a glimpse on what could be reality, with less and less filtration, but also a glimpse on the means and the purpose of it all. This is what Magic (Magick) is: a communion with the supernatural without having to submit to an authority that doesn’t exist, because the only true authority is our own conscience, as long as we have been able sharpen it and make it evolve according to our true nature.

In times past, I have written on my concern about the involvement of the American Church in politics. Especially about her romance with the Republican Party. I’ve condemned the unashamed overt or covert endorsement of the Republican Party and Republican candidates by the American Church, all in the name of family values.

As we approach another presidential election year, I think it’s appropriate that I write on this issue again. But this time, I write to specifically address that favorite buzzword – family values – which Republicans and so-called Christian leaders like to throw around at election time to get Christians to vote for the Republican Party.

I thought that it’s important that I write on this topic because over the years, many American Christian leaders have packaged American moral values as Christian values, to make American Christians believe that American values and Christian values are the same. Well, let me dispel that myth right here and now. American family values are NOT Christian values. Neither is the American family God’s family!

For something to be Christian, it would have to be CHRIST-ian i.e., Christ-centered. For something to be Christian, it would have to be what God values. And drumming up support to elect a particular candidate/party or appoint a judge to reverse a ruling is not God’s value. Rallying folks to protest against homosexuals, abortionists, gamblers, prostitutes, etc. is NOT what God values! Not even the banning of abortion, gay marriage, gambling, etc. is God’s values!

Protesting against sinners only ostracizes them, and does not bring them to Christ. It pushes them further away from the Cross, rather than to the Cross. Protesting against sinners builds spiritual walls rather than spiritual bridges. And for God’s sake the Church is NOT called to build spiritual walls, but spiritual bridges. We’ve been given the ministry of reconciliation NOT the ministry of retaliation!

Besides, protesting against sinners is a ‘holier than thou attitude,’ which says, “How could you be whatever you are?” How could you be gay or lesbian, a prostitute, an abortionist, etc., forgetting that we ALL once were sinners saved by Grace! We all once used to be the same people we protest against. (Ephesians 2:1-5)

Whenever I see some Christians protesting against sinners, sometimes I wonder…What if someone had protested against us while we were sinners? How many of us would be Christians today? Better yet, what if Jesus had held rallies against us rather than embrace us? Where would we be? After all, if anyone had the right to rally against sinners, it would be the sinless One. If anyone had the right to condemn, it would be the Holy One. But thank God, Jesus didn’t rally against or condemn anybody.

Now, don’t get me wrong, abortion is murder and a sin; homosexuality is a sin; gambling is wrong, etc. But so is killing with a gun or any other weapon. So is fornication, adultery, etc. But I’ve yet to see Christian leaders lobbying in the Congress to ban fornication, adultery, or even guns. This makes you wonder, “How do these Christian watch dogs decide on which sin is worse than the other?” My Bible says “Thou shall not kill.” Whether you kill an unborn baby, a baby or an adult, it is murder. Whether you kill with a surgical instrument, a gun or a knife, it is still murder.

So, why is abortion more serious than the homicides on the streets? Or why is homosexuality more sinful than fornication, adultery or other sexual sins? As passionate as some American Christians are about banning gay marriage, gambling, etc. you’d think that they would be the same way about banning divorce. After all God says in Malachi 2:16, that He hates divorce. Besides, divorce has the same effect on a family as gambling – it tears apart the fabric of a family.

How come these Christian groups don’t have the same passion, public outcry and demonstrations against divorce, fornication, adultery, etc.? How come they are not lobbying the Congress to outlaw fornication, adultery, divorce, etc.? Or is homosexuality more sinful than fornication and adultery? That’s not what my Bible says! Something is wrong with this picture.

But when we hear about family values the focus is often on those with an alternate lifestyle. I believe that the reason why many well-intentioned Christians have been fooled into believing that being anti-abortion, and opposed to gay marriages, gambling, etc., is having a Christian value is because these actions have a form of godliness. But having a form of godliness doesn’t make these values Christian. You can be opposed to gay marriages, gambling or abortion without being a Christian. In fact, the Catholics, the Mormons, the Orthodox Jews, etc., are opposed to all these, but that doesn’t make them Christians!

So, when these so-called Christian leaders try to sell us American family values as Christian values, we ought to say, “Wait a minute. “Whose family? Whose values?”

God’s Family

As Christians, our family (and our allegiance) changed when we gave our lives to Jesus Christ. We are now a part of a new spiritual Family (God’s Family); with new values. The Bible says that we have been adopted into the family of God (Ephesians 1:5). We are no longer a part of an American family, a Nigerian family, a Chinese or a European family. As pilgrims in the earth, our allegiance is no longer to our native countries, but to the Kingdom of God (1 Peter 2:11). Not even to our natural blood family (if they are not a part of God’s family)!

That was why when Jesus was told that His mother and brothers were outside waiting to see Him, He said, “…Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:48-50)

Likewise, for us Christians, anyone who does the will of the Father is our brother and sister. Notice, the verse says “anyone who does the will of my Father,” not the will of the pastor, the president or the country, but the will of the Father. So, before we assume that someone is our brother or sister in Christ, we need to see if they are doing the will of the Father. Not their own will or agenda.

Needless to say, a member of God’s family is ANY person (regardless of nationality, race or color), who has genuinely given his/her life to Christ, and does the will of the Father (Galatians 3:26-29). And if I may add, endorsing a political party or candidate or trying to legislate morality under the guise of Christianity is NOT doing the will of the Father!

God’s Values

What is the will of the Father? The will of the Father is what matters the most to the Father. The will of the Father is the purpose or the agenda of the Father. In fact, the word will (Greek — thelema) in the passage above and the passage below means purpose or decree. So, in essence, the will of the Father is the Father’s value – God’s value. Jesus made clear the will of the Father in John 6:38-40

For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

In other words, the will (or value) of the Father is to seek and save the Lost (Luke 19:10).

Therefore, if God’s will is to seek and save the lost, why are many American Christians spending their Christian lives defending American traditions in the name of Christian values? Like the spiritual leaders in Jesus’ days, why are they putting man-made values before God’s values?

The Scribes and Pharisees in Jesus’ days put their traditions above the Law! They were more concerned about their man-made laws and traditions than they were about the people. For them it was the law over people. But for Jesus, it was people over the law. This was why they had a problem with Jesus healing on the Sabbath or hanging around sinners. They’d rather see someone remain sick to uphold their tradition than see the person healed.

Like the Scribes and Pharisees, many American Christian leaders put the American culture and traditions above God’s value. Like the Scribes and Pharisees, they would rather see American values upheld than see a sin-sick sinner delivered from sin! If not, they wouldn’t be going through so much trouble to antagonize sinners through demonstrations, lobbying to pass laws or have certain court decisions reversed. I mean, it’s a sin-sick soul that is a homosexual, an abortionist, a prostitute or a gambler.

Like the Pharisees, they are more interested in creating a moral society than seeking and saving the lost. But the Church is not called to create a moral society or make the world better. Neither are we called to be the moral police of America, or the world at that. That’s not the job of the Church, because the world is never going to get better. Adam made sure of that when he sinned in the Garden. That’s why God said He will create a new earth and a new heaven.

Rather, the role of the Church is to call folks out of the world (darkness) into God’s marvelous light. We are called to simply be the light and salt of the earth – pointing folks to Jesus Christ and making people thirst for Jesus! Even Jesus didn’t make the world better in His days, but rather called people out of the world into God’s Kingdom.

When you think about it, what good is it to God to have a moral society, having banned gay marriages, abortions, or instituted prayer in schools yet still have several million moral sinners on their way to hell? Not being gay, an abortionist or a gambler does not make one a Christian. It only makes a person moral. And morality doesn’t save. Only Jesus saves! God is not interested in making sinners moral. He is interested in making them holy! He’s not interested in preventing sin, but He’s interested in stopping sin through their total conversion. We are called to be holy not moral! (1 Peter 1:15-16).

Therefore, electing people in office, appointing judges in the judiciary or influencing bills in Congress to ban certain social issues or reverse certain laws have not, and will NOT change the society! Laws don’t change people; ONLY God does by His Spirit! And unless we, the Christians, become true to our faith, be credible witnesses and preach the Gospel uncompromisingly, America, or any nation at that, will NEVER change. Only the uncompromising Gospel of Jesus has the power to transform a person from the inside out. Not laws or policies! That’s why Jesus said “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.” (Matthew 12:33)

Besides, trying to institute laws to ban some social issues is like trying to ban sin. You can’t ban sin! Laws don’t ban sins, they only fuel them! The issue is deeper than that. It’s a heart condition. And no amount of legislation can change that. The spiritual problem of America, or any nation, is not a natural problem, and as such cannot be solved by natural means. That’s like curing a mental problem with aspirin! These are deeper issues. And you solve spiritual problems with spiritual solutions.

That’s why 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 says that “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

“God is in the reconciliation business not the retaliation business!”

Therefore, banning gay marriages does not deliver the homosexuals from being gay. Reversing Roe v. Wade does not stop the abortionists from being an abortionist. Not even instituting prayers back in schools makes students Christians! Only the efficacious power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ can save and heal a sin-sick soul!

Am I saying that as Christians we should not do anything about the cultural encroachment? No! It’s alright to stand up for what is right and condemn the cultural encroachment. Like I mentioned earlier you don’t have to be a Christian to do that. However, when we do we should not do so at the expense of the Gospel, or in such a way that brings shame to the name of Jesus Christ or puts Christianity in a bad light.

The world doesn’t see our individual actions as our individual actions, but it ascribes our individual actions to Christianity. That is, whatever we do, good or bad (but especially bad), it thinks that that’s what Christianity is all about. For instance, some people wouldn’t come to Christ today, and would rather go to hell because of what has been done to them or someone they know, by a so-called Christian all in the name of Christianity!

What am I saying? That we shouldn’t portray American values as Christian values. Or portray the American family as the Christian family. They are not and will never be the same! But more importantly, as Christians, we should get our values right to get our priorities right!

How do we get our values right? By looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. I’ve mentioned this before in some other articles, but I believe that it bears repeating. Jesus Christ is our ultimate Example. If we didn’t see Him do it, we are not subject to it. Especially if it’s something that has no eternal value.

So how do you know what is a Christian value? Ask yourself, did Jesus do a similar action or would He do a similar action? Above all, does it glorify God the Father and reconcile others to God. The reconciliation part is very important. In essence, a Christian value is something that glorifies God and reconciles others to God. God is in the reconciliation business not the retaliation business!

With that said, as Christians, let’s fight the right fight with the right weapons!

Downton Abbey is a British television period drama series written by Julian Fellowes and produced by Gareth Neame.  The first series which aired in 2010 cost an estimated one million pounds per episode.  It became one of Britain’s most successful British period drama with British ratings exceeding 10 million viewers and over 6 million viewers per episode in the United States.

The series is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the stately home of the Earl and Countess of Grantham.  It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants starting in 1912 just before the war.  This was an interesting period and the series shows the confidence and the power of the late Victorians at that time.

In the first episode,  which is set in April 1912, there is news about the death of Lord Grantham’s cousin James Crawley and his son, due to the sinking of the Titanic.  As they were the heirs to Downtown Abbie and had no male offspring there begins speculation as to who will become his heir.

The actual series came about when the executive producer Gareth Neame and writer Julian Fellows were working on adaptation of Julian’s novel ‘snobs’.

They discussed working on an episodic series set in an Edwardian country house and it grew from there.  Julian was the perfect writer as he had always been interested in the way of life of fully staffed housed that were around when his own father was born.

The series set and costumes are lavish and impressive. Filming took place at the beautiful Highclere Castle in Berkshire and the savants living areas were filed at Ealing Studios, West London. Many outdoor scenes were filmed in the village of Bampton in Oxfordshire.  The first series had seven episodes in total, but the coming second series will be composed of eight. The filming began in March this year and will air towards the end of 2011 and will include a Christmas special.

The whole team behind this drama make it what it is today. The cast were chosen well, writers, makeup articles and they even brought on to set the historical advisor Alastair Bruce who helped the actors with answering questions to help them in their roles. If the second series is received in the same way as the first we can hopefully look forward to a third series being filmed next year.

I used to wonder and wish about the ‘enlightened’ ones. I have, on occasion, wished I had joined a monastery or temple and dedicated my life to the ascetic methods that some have deemed necessary to gain oneness with God. The world has seemed devoid of compassion and love, greed pervades every nook and cranny of life, violence is seen on many a street corner and deprivation weaves its tendrils into family life.

Where could God be if not within the cloistered walls of a Christian monastery or Buddhist temple? He certainly isn’t here.

Sounds pitiful, doesn’t it.

Well it is… and it isn’t.

Yes, God is hard to find amongst the corporate bonuses, gang violence and unjust sentences handed out by aged Judges who have lost all concept of what life is like for those who actually work for a living. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a lefty socialist. I am against corrupt government exploitation and greed, but not the original idea of democracy. However today’s world does not run on democracy; but that is for another article. My thoughts today regard finding God amongst this world devoid of morals, standards and honor.

God is where you find him (her or it… just to placate the sexism brigade).

To be honest I don’t like the term God. It engenders too much gender (ahem…). There is too much historical baggage associated with that word. God is asexual, bisexual and anti-sexual. God is Man, God is Woman, God is neuter and God is none of them. God is God; it’s just a pity the word God implies masculinity because it immediately restricts a persons idea of what God is.

So, the real point of this post is for me to get my head around whether life is too short for someone, any individual, be they man or woman, to formulate a connection to the divine and gain at least a beginning of an understanding of what God means. Whatever connection is obtained will be limited by the advancement of the persons soul and consciousness. At least I believe that concept to be reasonable. Whoever makes contact will receive ‘enlightenment’ at a level appropriate to their advancement; or to put it another way, consummate with the degree of understanding that they are capable of maintaining. This does not mean that someone who gains more ‘enlightenment’ than someone else is better than them. Each of us are where we are on our paths. Those who receive a greater degree of enlightenment are merely further along their own path. Maybe one or two incarnations prior to the moment of now, that enlightened one was exactly where you are now. There is no ego involved with enlightenment. If someone boasts about their level of divine knowledge, then you are safe in assuming they have none. Boasting is a sign of weakness or fear, plain and simple. Claims of miraculous cures or secrets that allow you to advance rapidly along the path to freedom are merely marketing scams promoted by charlatans or people with delusions of grandeur. Prison for the former and psychiatric help for the latter.

Connecting Up

Connection to God, or Universal Consciousness as I prefer to call His Lordship, happens when you are ready, and only when you are ready. If true enlightenment were to happen too early you would likely suffer a psychotic break or develop schizophrenia. The universe knows what is right for you far better than you do. So never, ever worry. If you don’t have a connection yet then that means you have other adventures ahead of you. You are not weak, you are not evil, you are not unworthy, you are just where you are, and you are experiencing what you need to experience to get you ready for that amazing moment. Be happy, you are walking the walk, and you are getting closer. The journey matters far more than the goal.

Can someone actually obtain a connection that allows then an insight into the divine?

Of course… it happens all the time.

Day by day the world is waking up. The wake up is speeding up too. Fifteen years ago I would have thought you bonkers if you were to suggest to me that I would become a Reiki Master, and it has taken fifteen years of work, research, experience and practice for me to get to where I am now. It has taken a myriad small steps and many different paths for me to get here. My first ‘revelation’ occurred shortly after watching an amazing BBC TV adaptation of the story of Merlin, with Sam Neill in the starring role. I was interested to see if the names of the Goddesses used in the program were historically accurate so I started searching on the web.

Wicca

Amongst various articles, I came across something called Wicca and I would think most of you are at least vaguely aware of what Wicca is. I had never heard of it before. When I read about Wicca something started to go bang inside me. It was a slow bang, a slow wave of excitement, adrenalin and a sense of finding my home. I had found what I was looking for without even knowing I was looking for something. The first effect I immediately noticed was a sudden ability to ‘feel’ the life emanating from plants. This is most notable in spring and summer and something I can still do today. I didn’t practice for it and I didn’t go looking for the ability. I just can and if there are any Reiki practitioners out there, the feeling is much like the tingling you get in your palms except much finer and gentler.

Of course I went potty. I started running around picking herbs, buying candles and making alter cloths. I over reacted, which is probably quite common for someone in my position at the time. I had never even considered God to be a possibility before, let alone a Goddess as his mate.

After a while I calmed down and started looking into the history of Wicca, where it came from and why. This led me to Gerald Gardner, Aleister Crowley and back to Mathers, Wescott and Waite of the Golden Dawn. To find that Wicca was ‘invented’ was a real disappointment for me at the time. The basis it had been built on was okay, but there was no true history much before the ’50′s as far as I could see. So I looked to Aleister Crowley, had a fright, moved on and looked into the Golden Dawn.

Magick

There’s real history there boy… so I joined. I was granted a full temple initiation and thought I had made it. Needless to say I hadn’t. I was not ready, had personal misgivings about the Temple leader, or Heirophant as they are known, and left about a year later. From there I have dabbled with Thelema (Mr Crowley again), Christianity, more Thelema (there are parts of it that are perfectly valid and reasonable as far as I am concerned) and then tried drifting aimlessly along for a while.

In magical traditions there is something called a Magical Retreat. You break off all communication with the outside world and bury yourself in whatever it is you need to do. This can last for a couple of weeks to several years. Looking back at my aimless time, I believe that to have been my Magical Retreat (of sorts… I still had a job, friends and a social life… just no Magick). It gave me time to grow and digest what I had experienced. My thoughts and ideas have certainly concreted over that time, and I now know what I need in life and what I do not need. The end of the retreat came with my being made redundant last December (2010). That was the metaphorical kick up the bum that I needed to change my life and re-prioritize things.

Reiki

And so, with some synchronicity and good fortune I found my way to Reiki. Now that is a connection. It’s available to all who have the calling. The degrees allow for the individual, and the Master, to apply the attunements when the student is ready, and the practice helps build the connection at the speed appropriate for the student. As with all esoteric traditions, because Reiki is one, many are called. Not all will be ready, which is fine. Receiving an attunement when you are not ready is not dangerous at all. The first degree will usually sort that out with the student realizing it is not actually for them. They will go away, go through whatever detox or cleansing they have to go through and move on to other things. They will always be attuned, but if they do not use that gift that is perfectly okay. It is not a sin to not use it. Your path is your path and you must do what you must do. You make your choices based on your life experience and everyone makes a slight detour now and then. It really isn’t a problem at all.

So what is this connection then?
