If you?re just starting work as a courier, you may find the following guide useful. That?s because it is a secret and mysterious world, alongside which, the contorted secret societies outlined in the Da Vinci Code simply pale into insignificance. So, to help, this article hasn?t been hidden in a secret code-locked cylinder or written in a cipher that nobody?s understood for millennia ? it?s in plain English, but all to be taken with a large grain of salt!

Getting invited to join

If you?re looking to join a courier company, you will sooner or later be invited to meet ?The Grand and Omnipotent Master?. He or she will masquerade under a friendly title such as ?The Head Of HR?, or perhaps ?The Chief Dispatcher? or maybe just ?The Boss? – but don?t be misled. This being has immense power and the knowledge of ages behind them. To secure their approval in the selection ceremony, you?ll have to prove yourself a worthy applicant by performing certain rituals.

These will typically include:? Demonstrating your mastery of the false laugh as they unleash some time-weathered jokes and humorous remarks? Reciting the specified rituals of humiliation by explaining just how much you want to join their secret society (or ?company? as they may insist you call it when speaking with outsiders)? Pretending to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of any non-job related subject they raise (usually sport, pubs/clubs, steam engines etc).

Beware of trick questions designed to catch-out the unwary supplicant. These are usually cunningly disguised such as ?do you have ambition?? Any answer other than a ?NO? may be interpreted as a threat to The Grand Master?s position.

Initiation

If you survive the initial selection meeting, you may receive an invitation to join the courier brotherhood (no gender bias is implied in today?s world ? the title is merely a historical hang-over from Medieval times). You?ll be given a joining date upon which you?ll present yourself at a specified secret location (it?s secret to stop a special type of outsider called ?the customer? from finding it). You?ll probably find that the Grand Master Courier has vanished, very possibly never to be seen again by mere ordinary members. You?ll find a fellow member, possibly called ?him/her in the office?, that will probably welcome you with the traditional secret greeting, which is a very hard-to-recognise grunt and nod in your general direction.If you?re lucky, you may be provided with your regalia (which with outsiders we describe as our ?uniform? or ?overalls?) to which your response must be ?I?ll look fine in this?. You?ll also be handed your personal book of secrets, which may be deceptively entitled ?Delivery Schedules? just to fool snoops. The book of secrets is a mysterious and very hard to decipher document that you?ll need to progress up the courier hierarchy to the level of a full ?him/her in the office? to understand. Its main purpose for initiates is its use to intimidate onlookers.

Rites of passage

The core secrets of meditation are about achieving complete inner freedom… sometimes called liberation or enlightenment. This author is not enlightened, but he has had some very powerful experiences. This is his humble attempt to help you in your journey.

Anytime you speak of secrets, it is important to understand that secrets are only secret because few people are willing to look in the right place.

When you look in the right place… secrets become obvious!

Unfortunately, finding your answers within is not a very popular solution in modern society. You are constantly barraged by media messages saying that happiness is just one more accomplishment away. It might be a nicer car, a bigger house, more money, or a more attractive partner.

External achievements are nice, but they will never bring you lasting happiness. The more you cling to them, the less inner freedom you have. This is why all the great spiritual traditions encourage you to look within.

There are a variety of traditions that have a variety of meditation techniques and other practices that lead (hopefully) to liberation. Some move energy within the body. Some use breathing techniques to alter state. Some focus on identifying with a presence greater than the body (or the ego mind). Some use chanting, visualization, prayer, etc.

There are certain elements, though, that are included in or arise from all of these practices. These elements could be called the core secrets of meditation.

You can practice them right now:

Relax: The first step is to turn off the sympathetic nervous system (the fight or flight response). Most people walk around their day to day lives in varying levels of unhealthy stress. This can be handled with simple relaxation. Even if you go no further than this, learning to really relax and bring a little bit more relaxation throughout your life is rewarding beyond words, but is achieved by very few people. It is not difficult, but it does take a little bit of consistency and a little bit of humility. You can relax by simply taking a deep, slow breath, and allowing your body to come to a place of greater ease.

Focus: The ability to focus, or hold your awareness on a single thing for a length of time, is almost unheard of in modern society. Again, we have built our lives around distractions, so this does make it a little more challenging. The benefits of focus, however, are nearly beyond belief. Focus intensifies all the benefits of relaxation. In addition, in activity is more enjoyable and more effective when done with greater focus. You can build focus quickly by just taking a few moments to pour all of your attention into one thought, image, sound, or activity. If your attention drifts, gently bring it back.

Accept: Acceptance could be considered inner relaxation. It is the cultivated internal non-resistance to whatever comes up. The more you accept, the less you need to resist or cling to thoughts, feelings, or events. This sounds weird to most people. To the people that experience it… it is almost blissful. To develop acceptance, just pay attention to all that comes into your awareness and acknowledge it. Sort of an internal ‘yes’… not ‘yes I like this’, but ‘yes I recognize this, and I let go of clinging to it or resisting it.

Be joyful: This tends to arise naturally with enough acceptance (notice how each of these leads into the next). Joyfulness is a deep happiness independent of circumstances. It is unmistakable. To experience a little joyfulness, smile, and let go of any concern for what has passed or what will come. Just love this smile in this moment as deeply as possible… and as you do, you might notice this moment is not just this moment… it is eternity… and so is this smile.

These core secrets of meditation can be found (at least to some degree) in virtually all meditation techniques. They are very powerful. With just a little dedicated practice, they will change your life.

So the real question becomes…

Will you practice them?

I am a Freemason. I reside in the United States so I’m not associated with the Grand Lodge of England. I am also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Royal Arch Mason, and a Knights Templar. That’s quite a bit of Masonry.

I have read a couple of articles telling others about secret handshakes and masonic ideals. Oh sure, we do have secrets. After all, we are a Fraternity. Most of those secrets are right out on the web to see. Take a look at any Lodge website. The problem you may have is that since you are not a Mason you don’t really know what is public and what is private information. Most, if not all, Masonic organizations are involved in community and charitable work. Within these organizations are Masons that are involved in philosophical work as well. I believe the latter is the cause of much of the angst about Masonic secrets. What is this philosophical work? It’s nothing more than Masons trying to better themselves.

We look at what makes us who we are and how we can improve ourselves. We consider all religious philosophy, without excluding our personal religious beliefs. The latter frightens some and they work vigorously to deride Freemasonry as a religion unto itself with evil beliefs. But consider this. Many of our founding fathers in the USA were Freemasons. It was the philosophy they discussed of creating a government by and for the people that endures today.

Still others believe that because there are secrets – yes there are secrets – there must be something going on. Well, there is. As I said before we are a Fraternity. All Fraternities have secrets. We have grips so that we can know one Mason from another and expressions which can be said aloud and are only known to a Mason. As I write this I think about all those corporate boardrooms with plenty of secrets which can be more damaging to society than anything a Masonic Fraternity can think of. Masons are simply a Fraternity that seeks to better the individual.

The great arguments among the Christians and the Mormons is that the Mormons will not accept the Christian creeds. The belief here is that the very same reasons that exclude the Mormons or the Latter Day Saints from Christianity as it is known today also excludes the original Christians of the New Testament.what is the big reference here is to the nicean creed or any other creeds that came after the Bible.

As far as using other books beside the Bible an argument of the Mormons are Christians will be quick to point out that the early Christians were not either. They will bring to the point the name of the New Testament itself which indicates that it was a new volume of Scripture. The consensus is that there are many new volumes regarding this Scripture. They will note that many of the early Christians did give credence to the Gospel of Matthew but that there were Jewish writings as well and there are other books accepted by the early Christians that are not being used today such as the book of Enoch. So the bottom line comes down to that if the society of Christianity is not going to accept the Mormons as being Christians of today then they have to put what were called Christians in the biblical days into the same category as being non-Christian.

Wasn’t it just in the past few years the Mormons have started to pretend to be Christians in order to better fit into society?

It has to be taken into consideration that many years ago that the Mormons made no claim to be part of the Christian religion. The argument now being raised by Christians is that the Mormons have taken a opposite approach to this because they want to be able to fit into society and a better way. The argument from the seniors of the Mormon church denied this and stated that they have changed nothing since their inception back in the beginning when Joseph Smith puts the church of latter day saints together.

In respect to this argument they will make several references to Joseph Smith’s prophecies and writing they will further go on to say that the concept that Mormons are definitely Christians are accepted by anyone that is familiar with the Church of Mormons should be pointed out that many of the writings of the Mormons will make it very clear that they had no intention of becoming just another Church of America.

It is believed that the inception of this church was based on Joseph Smiths vision that God wanted him to bring a new church to earth because none that were here were correct. Great exception is taken to the fact that many Christians will refer to the Mormons as being a form of cult. Any individual that is part of Mormonism holds a high caliber of respect for Joseph Smith. It must be remembered that he has been accepted as being a prophet of the religion and is the only one that had the right to set the tone for what the church would stand for. The Mormons profess of a letter from a past congressmen who have heard Joseph Smith preach and found no discourse with Christianity. It is writings like this that they will heavily dependent on in support their claims

The real problem comes down to where it is almost a play on words when trying to discern just exactly what the Mormons do stand for and what they do not. There is no doubt that they believe in many segments of the Bible however in respect to Joseph Smiths teaching there have been additions and exceptions and this is where the argument from the Christian standpoint comes into play that there now are no exceptions to what is written in the Bible

In respect to the argument that Mormons are now referring to Jesus Christ more than what they did years ago it is pointed out that Ted Jones who was a Baptist missionary brought up the very same complaint back in 1912 therefore if it was evident then that the Mormons were relying on the term Christianity certainly is not something that has been just surfacing in the last few years.
